This was our first visit to Maasai Mara National Park, though a second safari just after the New Year in Kenya. The previous experience we had through a Russian tour operator left us unsatisfied—schedule too tight and too crowded, with no time to enjoy the lodges and wildlife.
This year, we arranged the holiday directly through a local safari provider. We chose to stay three days in Maasai Mara, at Mara Serena Lodge, and never regretted it. Diwaka Safaris, among over 15 local providers we contacted for quotes, was the best in responding promptly and to the point. They provided the exact program we were asking for, plus some nice extras like dinner at Carnivore and an overnight stay in Nairobi Serena on our way back—all for the same price.
Diwaka provided us with exceptional service during our safari, and I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a luxury safari in Kenya. Everything was organized perfectly, even a minor misunderstanding with a balloon safari company was resolved by our guide on the spot. The cars they provided were new and comfortable, and our guide went out of his way to get us the best shots of wildlife as though he were a professional photographer. He was always the first at spots with rare animals, giving us private viewing time before other jeeps arrived. His masterful driving through rain-flooded hills from Masai Mara to the Isebania border ensured we arrived on time for our Tanzanian safari.
Despite the heavy rains, we saw many young animals, including wildebeest cubs, lion, cheetah, leopard cubs, small rhinos, and elephants. The road from Nairobi to Maasai Mara was long and bumpy, but the game drive began just a few miles from our lodge when we saw a pride of lions and a black rhino.
Mara Serena Lodge is beautifully situated on a high hill, facing the Mara River on one side and endless plains on the other. We enjoyed multiple game drives each day, witnessing abundant wildlife, including lions and leopards with their cubs. A balloon safari at Maasai Mara is a must-do experience, offering unforgettable views of the sunrise over the Mara River.
Highly recommend Kenya and Maasai Mara for those seeking a break from city life and beach holidays. It clears your mind and rejuvenates you for the challenges ahead. Thanks to Diwaka Safaris for meeting all our expectations.
