Laba Jongomero Camp

Laba Jongomero Camp

Laba Jongomero Camp is an exclusive, classic luxury tented safari camp located under shady acacia trees on the banks of the scenic seasonal Jongomero Sand River in the wilderness of Ruaha National Park – one of the last true wildernesses in Africa. The camp sits in a secluded part of south-western Tanzania's Ruaha National Park, with the closest camp being 25 miles (60+ km) away, ensuring an exclusive, private game-viewing experience without seeing other vehicles or visitors. Laba Jongomero is the most secluded permanent lodge in the area, with only the ranger post ensuring security as its neighbor.

Rooms

The camp features eight large, well-appointed tented suites, each built on raised wooden platforms under enormous thatched roofs that also encompass spacious private verandas overlooking the dry riverbed. Each tented suite includes an 8-foot wide dhow wood emperor bed, warming quilts, en-suite bathroom with dual vanities, flush toilet, and large shower with solar-heated water, mosquito net windows, and mosquito nets. Guests can snuggle under quilts, fall asleep to the hum of Africa beyond the canvas, and wake up to morning tea while animals amble past.

General facilities

The main lounge sits on the dry river bank and includes the bar and restaurant, where guests dine al fresco on a large terrace or in the chic dining room, or even in the African bush under the stars. The camp offers fresh and delicious cuisine cooked by an excellent chef, featuring local dishes and fresh salads, served al fresco in the shade of century-old trees. Between game activities, guests can relax by the swimming pool or one of the inviting shaded areas under the magnificent shade trees.

Activities

Ruaha National Park is Tanzania's largest national park and houses the greatest elephant population in Tanzania, along with lions, leopards, and rare Roan and Sable antelopes. The Jongomero River flows all year round as a tributary of the Great Ruaha River, creating magnificent landscapes with diverse wildlife species. Guests explore Ruaha in private open-sided vehicles with maximum four seats for exclusive game viewing, with activities including game drives, guided game walks, birding (path heron, mountain glossy starling, rufous fish eagle, and other species), and the thrilling fly camping experience – a full day walking safari ending with sleeping under the stars.

About

The camp offers a wonderful remote, "off-the-beaten-track" safari experience perfect for guests wanting to experience true unadulterated wilderness far from the madding crowds. A viewpoint on the river bank allows observation of elephants, kudus, baboons, and other bush animals in their natural environment. The quintessence of luxury in the wilds, Jongomero offers a gloriously isolated, secluded idyll where guests can discover authentic African wilderness with nothing but nature around them.
