Olumara Tented Camp is a 3-star mid-range exclusive tented camp located along the banks of the Olaro Orok River in the Maasai Mara Koiyaki Lemek Conservation Area (north of Maasai Mara Game Reserve), on the boundary of Maasai Mara national reserve and Mara North Conservancy. Open all year round, this secluded camp is a photographer's haven offering privacy in a vast unexplored area.
Rooms
The camp consists of 10-13 spacious self-contained luxury tents (plus 1 family tent), each featuring hand-carved beds from fallen trees (no trees cut), balconies for relaxation and game viewing, and en-suite bathrooms with hot/cold showers and flush toilets. Two modest thatched buildings house the lounge and dining area, with a rope suspension bridge across the river for an adventurous entrance.
Activities
Activities include night game drives (first in Maasai Mara), day game drives, guided nature walks, bush dinners, bush breakfasts, guided bird walks, sundowners, and Maasai village visits. Wildlife includes elephants, zebras, giraffes, lions, cheetahs, rhinos, and rare honey badgers and spotted resident leopard.
Access is via road (250 km from Nairobi, 5-6 hours) or air (45-minute flight from Nairobi). The camp offers full board accommodation with tea/coffee and mineral water in tents, set in a serene environment with pleasant bird sounds.
