Ngulia Safari Lodge

Ngulia Safari Lodge

Ngulia Safari Lodge is a historic mid-range safari lodge built in 1969 and officially opened on May 22, 1969, owned and managed by Kenya Safari Lodges & Hotels Ltd (KSLH). The lodge stands within the Tsavo West National Park on the edge of the Ndawe Escarpment just below Ngulia Hills, overlooking the Ngulia Rhino Sanctuary surrounded by scenic hills.

The lodge is perched approximately 232-260 km from Nairobi and 250 km from Mombasa, offering one of the most breathtaking views in Kenya with a vast panorama of Tsavo's sweeping plains and volcanic landscape, including a clear view of Mount Kilimanjaro.

Rooms

The lodge features 52 modern-style interconnecting spacious standard rooms that are all ensuite with bath and shower, featuring a balcony with a view of the vast wilderness and floodlit water holes.

Each room includes a lounge area, working station, electrical fans, 240/220V shaver sockets, hair dryers, wireless internet connectivity, complimentary mineral water and toiletries. Single, double, and triple rooms are available, with options for safety deposit boxes, fridges, and tea/coffee making facilities on request.

Dining

The dining facilities include the main restaurant built in an open-air style with interior and exterior dining spaces and an open terrace offering a view of floodlit water holes. All meals are served buffet style. The restaurant overlooks water holes visited by a leopard most evenings (bait is put out in a tree overlooking the water hole).

There is also the Leopard View Bar that opens in the evenings before the arrival of the leopard from the wilderness, where guests can enjoy meals watching the leopard feast, other animals drink water and interact, and birds compete in their melodies.

The Nyati Bar has a good stock of alcoholic beverages from all over the world with dishes prepared from seasonal organic ingredients. Optional arrangements can be made for bush breakfasts, sundowner dinners, and picnic lunch boxes.

Facilities

Facilities include an outdoor swimming pool, massage parlour (Japanese massage available), conference facilities with one meeting room that can host 20-30 guests with a technical team and coordinator, forex exchange, WiFi, and binocular viewing. The lodge welcomes children and is best for team building activities, retreats, and educational getaways. The property also offers giant binoculars in the Leopard View Bar for viewing the Rhino Sanctuary.

Activities

Activities include game drives, Rhino Sanctuary visits, nature walks, hill climbing (Five Sisters' Hill), swimming, Japanese massage, binoculars viewing, leopard viewing and spotting, bush breakfast, and sundowners. Nearby attractions include Mzima Springs, Shetani Lava Flow, Chaimu Crater and Lava Field, and the volcanic landscape of Tsavo West.

The lodge offers amazing views over a watering hole frequently visited by wild animals including buffalos, elephants, leopards, and the almost permanent population of wildlife that drink water or take a bath.

Guests can make use of the giant binocular in Leopard View Bar to get a clear view over the Rhino Sanctuary. The lodge is approximately one hour's drive (50 km) inside Tsavo West National Park from Mtito Andei KWS gate
