Umani Springs, is a small luxury bush home at the eastern foot of the Chyulu Hills within Kibwezi Forest. This Community Conservation area is an ancient groundwater forest known for its wealth of butterflies and pristine springs. The property belongs to the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, and is primarily reserved for DSWT elephant orphan “foster parents.” The camp was designed to facilitate personal, educational visits for foster parents to see their orphans (or ex-orphans) after they leave the baby elephant and come to the Tsavo-west National Park / Conservation area for their reintroduction process into the wild. During their stay, visitors can tour the orphans’ stockades, watch their midday mud-bath, feedings, and more.The property at Umani Springs sleeps ten people total in three contemporary styled, raised bedroom unites each with queen or twin beds. All units also feature private verandas, open-air en-suite bathrooms, and personal lounge areas. The communal living and dining rooms feature French doors, a contemporary bar, and open design. Hot water and electricity is solar heated. Do note that Umani Springs is a self-catering facility. EJ can arrange all food and drink for the duration of your stay.Surrounding the lodge are lush grounds with two waterholes and a salt lick which frequently draws elephants, birdlife, birdlife, etc. Be sure to take time to relax in the natural spring-fed swimming pool, admire the array of flora around the property, or take up a game of badminton, croquet, or volleyball. Additional activities include nature and game drives through Kibwezi Forest, guided forest walks, and hiking.

Situated within the Kibwezi Forest, a biodiversity hotspot renowned for its spectacular variety of butterflies and birds, Umani Springs is a self-catering property overlooking waterholes fed by the Umani Springs. Based in the luscious surrounds of an ancient 18,000 acre groundwater forest which now forms part of the Chyulu Hills National Park, the Kibwezi Forest provides a habitat for a number of species including elephants, leopards, hyenas, buffaloes and bushbucks. serval cats, civets, mongooses and duikers.
