andBeyond Lake Manyara Tree Lodge is a luxury safari lodge situated in a remote corner of scenic Lake Manyara National Park, the only permanent lodge within the park offering rare access to diverse habitats. Tucked into the upper branches of an ancient mahogany forest and embraced by the dramatic Rift Valley, the lodge offers a deeply immersive escape into Tanzania's most biodiverse national park. Set in a mahogany forest, the lodge is entirely hidden from view until you're right at it, built deep into the forest with minimal environmental impact.
Rooms
The lodge boasts 10 intimate, elevated treehouse suites (original 9 suites plus 1 family suite), each built on stilts in the branches of mahogany trees and crafted from local timber and makuti palm fronds. Each suite has its own private deck/leafy veranda running the length with branches and tree trunks coming up through the wooden decking, positioned high among trees. The treehouses are sophisticately designed blending intimacy and romance, ensuring privacy and exclusivity in a cool, leafy environment, with suites tucked away from others by branches, leaves, and lianas.
Wildlife & Experience
The elevated treehouse suites overlook dappled glades where elephants sometimes wander below – you can see large herds of elephant and buffalo roaming the cool forests, and the region is famous for rare tree-climbing lions. The lodge is nestled deep in dense forest without barriers to wildlife (requiring Maasai Warrior escort during dark hours). At night you can see bush babies leaping from tree to tree, and in morning bird calls surround you – the park has over 380 bird species. The game-rich surroundings include soaring trees, tranquil lake, and mountain escarpments, with elephants walking around the treehouses.
Dining
The main lodge features a big lounge, open-plan interactive kitchen (guests can observe food preparation), dining room, and sandy boma lit by 50 lanterns with roaring fires at night. A small swimming pool is nestled in a forest glade for relaxation. Breakfasts and picnics are served on the lakeshore (weather permitting), and food is exceptional with sumptuous treats from the interactive kitchen accommodating all guest needs. Dining occurs in the theatrical boma or on open dining decks with spectacular forest views, and evenings include frozen gin & tonic welcomes to dinner with premium wines available.
Activities
Activities include morning, afternoon, and night game drives to discover Lake Manyara National Park, especially in the remote southwest where the lodge is situated (making for long, rewarding game drives from northern Main Gate). Guests can enjoy private sundowners on grassy shores of Lake Manyara, lakeshore picnics, personalized massage in your own suite, and relaxation by the pool. Each guest has a personal butler attending every whim throughout the stay, and knowledgeable guides provide friendly, impeccable, attentive service with private waiter/host for each guest.
