Gibb's Farm is an idyllic safari lodge nestled on the outer slopes of the Ngorongoro Crater overlooking the Great Rift Valley in Tanzania. Established in the early 1900s by a German Duke as a coffee plantation, it was later purchased by James and Margaret Gibb who built additional cottages in 1972, making it one of the first guest houses in northern Tanzania. The property occupies an ultra-secluded location and boasts phenomenal views of the Great Rift Valley, offering something different from typical safari experiences.
Rooms
The farm features 10-acre vegetable garden complete with fruit trees and various herbs, where everything farmed goes straight to the kitchen and then to guests' plates. Visitors can participate in farm walks exploring the gardens, help with collecting eggs or milking cows, join baking classes in the morning, and take special farm tours to learn about coffee processing. While you can get your hands dirty during your stay, guests are well taken care of by the Gibbs Farm staff and sleep comfortably in either gorgeous little cottages or within the main farmhouses.
About
The property has an intriguing history and is settled within the outer reaches of the Ngorongoro Crater. While you can embark on day tours into various national parks for ample game viewing, it's the kind of place where you'll want to spend most of your time exploring the grounds. The farm offers a unique blend of agricultural activities and comfortable accommodation, distinguishing itself from typical safari lodges through its farming heritage and hands-on guest experiences.
Guests sleep oh-so comfortably in one of the gorgeous little cottages or within the main farmhouses, well taken care of by Gibb's Farm staff. The lodge is a sanctuary for the senses positioned on the crater's outer slopes, providing an idyllic setting that combines the tranquility of a working farm with safari lodge comfort.
