Ngorongoro Farm House is a small and exclusive lodge situated on a 500-acre working coffee plantation in the fertile highlands of Karatu, just 5 kilometers from the Ngorongoro Lolduare entrance gate to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The lodge faces the Oldeani Volcano and was built to offer an original experience reminiscent of the atmosphere of the old colonial days. It's part of the Tanganyika Wilderness Camps collection and serves as a wonderful stop-off during a safari on Tanzania's north circuit, as well as a privileged place to visit the crater or enjoy activities like walking safaris to the volcano.
Rooms
The accommodation consists of 50-51 spacious chalet-type rooms built in the style of an old colonial farm, with hand-plaited thatched roof tops and colonial interiors. All rooms are situated at ground level with private terraces or balconies overlooking gardens and/or coffee plantation. Rooms feature double beds or two single beds and have bathrooms with showers. The family room consists of two rooms with a connecting door. The rooms are spacious, comfortable, and attractively decorated with local materials and rustic charm.
Facilities
The main building is covered with an elegant thatched roof and contains the reception, bar, dining area, library, and lounge with fireplace. Guest areas are completed by a swimming pool with superb views of Oldeani Volcano, surrounded by loungers and plenty of shade. Children can enjoy volleyball on the lawns. The lodge offers excellent space for relaxation, with fragrant gardens perfect for leisurely strolls and spectacular sunsets with the Oldeani volcano as backcloth.
Dining
The farm is fully functional and takes pride in farm-to-table dining, with excellent homemade cuisine prepared using organic and fresh vegetables harvested from the farm throughout the year, plus dairy and fresh produce from the farm's cows, pigs, chickens, and sheep. Dinner can be served on the terrace deck for an al fresco dining experience amidst stunning scenery. The visit to the coffee plantation and garden is interesting and entertaining, and you can buy coffee from the plantation as a souvenir.
Activities
In the evening, guests enjoy African dances, appetizers, and cooking demonstrations – the dinner show is fantastic. Activities include walking safaris to Oldeani Volcano, nature walks through the grounds and coffee plantation that give the real feel of the country, and excursions to Lake Eyasi on the Rift Valley still inhabited by the Hadzabe tribe. The lodge is a great base for exploring Lake Manyara and the Ngorongoro Crater, which is home to remarkable wildlife concentrations including lions, elephants, rhinos, buffalo, wildebeest, and zebras.
