Kitela Lodge

Kitela Lodge is a small, exclusive colonial-style lodge that rises up on the hillside of a valley within the incredible highlands of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, near Karatu in Northern Tanzania. The lodge opened in May 2012 and enjoys a superb mountainside position in a lush valley amidst coffee plantations and cascading waterfalls, with beautiful views over the plantations and dramatic backdrop of the Ngorongoro Crater forests. It's a great base from which to explore the Ngorongoro Crater and surrounding area, about 18 km from the Ngorongoro Lodoare Gate.

Rooms

The lodge consists of 20 colonial-styled cottage rooms/suites, offering a relaxing, quiet atmosphere surrounded by beautiful gardens with banana trees and colorful flowers. All rooms are at ground level with private terraces or balconies overlooking the gardens and/or coffee plantation, featuring canopied beds, claw-footed tubs, large bathrooms, mosquito netting, telephone, and internet access. For families, there are interconnecting and triple rooms. The cottages are spacious and sumptuous, creating the exclusivity of a traditional country villa and epitome of African elegance.

Recreational facilities

The lodge features a large heated outdoor swimming pool and sundeck with loungers and umbrellas, safely secluded amidst lush palms and bushes. Next to the pool is the main farmhouse with a scenic view terrace on the second storey. The Kitela Spa (African Spa) offers selection of treatments for relaxing the body, mind, soul, and pampering guests to stimulate their senses. Other facilities include plenty of cosy spaces to relax, a wellness centre, and a football pitch rounding out the shared public spaces.

Activities

Activities available include guided walks around the farm, the village, and in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, with safaris into the crater and Serengeti National Park. The lodge is the perfect contrast to the intense excursions and safaris, with relaxation from the spa and swimming pool being what makes Kitela Lodge a haven for all guests.
