Lake Manze Camp

Lake Manze Camp

Lake Manze Camp is set right in the heart of the best game area in the Selous (now Nyerere National Park), arguably one of the best value options in Africa. The camp is situated on the banks of Lake Manze in Tanzania's Nyerere National Park, a superb safari location with a lakefront setting overlooking the Lake Manze floodplain. This area is one of the richest for game in the whole Selous Game Reserve with great game-viewing opportunities all year round.

Rooms

The camp features 12 spacious Meru-style tents (walk-in camping tents) with double or twin beds, each pitched in the shade of large plane trees. Tents are spacious, comfortable, and cool, with relaxing open verandahs/balconies at the front for morning coffee and views over the beautiful Selous plains. The en-suite bathroom at the rear has a solar-heated hot shower, flush toilet, and shower open to the stars. There is no electricity in the tents, with storm lanterns creating magical evening atmosphere.

Views & Wildlife

The camp's lakeside location means animals walk to and fro through camp to the water – a well-worn elephant trail passes directly in front of the camp, with elephants often strolling past tents down to the lake. You can enjoy game viewing from the comfort of your own veranda or from the friendly open-sided lounge banda without leaving camp. Elephants and other species are often found in camp, as the area has dense game during all seasons. The position offers magnificent views over varied birdlife and wildlife.

General facilities

The central area houses the lounge, dining banda, and small bar with sandy floors reflecting the camp's rustic simplicity. The heart of the camp is the mess tent where guests gather for meals, though meals can also be eaten outside and special bush meals can be arranged. Battery charging facilities are available in the main area, and no electricity is available in tents. The camp is simply furnished with back-to-basics classic safari style, yet offers comfortable accommodation and private verandahs.

Activities

Lake Manze offers diverse safari activities: game drives in 4-wheel drive vehicles (maximum 4 guests per vehicle, 6 on transfer), guided walking safaris into the wilderness, boat safaris/trips (roughly 2 hours - a must for lazy afternoon, likely to see birds, hippos, crocodiles), and fishing. Boat safaris are considered essential for experiencing wildlife up close in the water. Under-16 year olds are not permitted to take part in walking safaris. The camp is run by Maasai askari guards who ensure safety.

About

The camp's rustic simplicity provides strong sense of wilderness in this remote setting. It's ideal for adventurers and romantics wanting total bush absorption, waking with rising sun and falling asleep to distant lion roar. With storm lanterns creating magical atmosphere and still isolation making it a real camping adventure, it offers back-to-basics classic safari style that consistently produces excellent safari experiences. The camp is family-friendly, children welcome, and offers terrific value for the exceptional game-viewing position on the lakeshore.
