Selous River Camp

Selous River Camp is a small, tranquil, affordable safari camp nestled within woodland overlooking the magnificent Rufiji River on the very edge of Nyerere National Park (formerly Selous Game Reserve), Tanzania's largest protected wilderness area. Located just 5 minutes from Mtemere Gate, the camp is outside the park on the boundary, offering easy access while avoiding long drives to the entrance gate.

Rooms

The camp offers a choice of accommodation to suit various budgets, featuring 9 spacious "mudhut" style chalets (traditional mudhuts) spread along the river bank, and 4 simple basic tents further back in the peaceful forest shade. The mudhuts are what camp is famous for, with striking contrast between traditional mud structure and well-appointed interior, featuring lovely sweeping views over the river from outdoor seating on private verandas, double beds, large ensuite bathrooms, and solar power fans. Views & Wildlife

Perched high overlooking the vast Rufiji River, guests can watch hippos lazily wallow in the shallows, birds soaring over the water, and crocodiles sunning themselves on sandbanks. The camp's elevated position offers breathtaking views over the river and its many hippos, with a swimming pool perfectly located offering guests chance to view wallowing hippos in nearby waterhole. The woodland is commonly visited by three different species of monkeys, herds of elephants, and huge variety of birdlife. The jungle scene perched high on the river bank provides spectacular views of the river and surrounding landscape.
