Kigongoni Lodge

Kigongoni Lodge is located on an historic 70-acre coffee farm near Arusha, Tanzania, nestled amid natural forest on a hilltop with lush gardens. Perched on a hillside with spectacular views, the lodge offers breathtaking vistas of Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru, and was developed in harmony with local community values and respect for heritage.

Rooms

The lodge features 18 cottages (plus 1 family room with 2 separate bedrooms) tucked between the trees, all built in traditional African styles and materials using local resources. The cottages are large (60 square meters) with four-poster beds with large mosquito nets (single beds 4×4 feet, double beds 8×8 feet). Each cottage has a large private verandah/terrace/balcony with views of either Mount Meru or Kilimanjaro, surrounded by indigenous vegetation. Rooms include large bathroom areas with separate shower and bathtub, writing and sitting areas, fireplaces in each cottage, en-suite bathrooms, telephones, desk, safety deposit box, and mosquito nets.

Facilities & Dining

The lodge features an À la carte restaurant serving European-style cuisine with distinct African elements, using organically grown vegetables from the own garden and homegrown ingredients whenever possible. Breakfast and dinner are served at table, with dinner comprising a minimum of 3 courses plus complimentary tea or local coffee at the bar. The cocktail lounge and bar are open until all guests retire, offering a diverse choice of wines. Rooms, cocktail lounge, and restaurant all have fireplaces, and there's an intimate outside dining area for alfresco meals. The intimate restaurant fuses European kitchen classics with unique African elements.

Recreation & Activities

Recreational facilities include a tranquil outdoor swimming pool, nature walks through the lodge's 70-acre forest and coffee farm, and guided village walks with cultural experiences. Additional activities include horse riding (arranged upon request), forest lunches and breakfasts, mountain bike day tours, and walks to Lake Duluti (2.5 km away). The lodge also offers a library for reading, sun deck, and bicycle rental for guests to enjoy the peaceful surroundings.
