Elewana Serengeti Migration Camp

Elewana Serengeti Migration Camp

Elewana Serengeti Migration Camp is a 4-star mid-range luxury tented camp hidden among rocky outcrops at the starting point of the Great Migration in the northern Serengeti National Park, Tanzania. Located next to the famous Grumeti River (home to resident hippos that bark and wallow), the camp is synonymous with low-impact, high-action game viewing in a landscape untouched since the dawn of time. The camp embodies the essence of safari and serves as an ideal base for witnessing Earth's most spectacular wildlife spectacle – the annual movement of over 1.5 million wildebeest, accompanied by hundreds of thousands of zebras and gazelles.

Rooms

The camp consists of 20 luxurious elevated tented chalets on stilts, each with spacious and richly furnished bedrooms divided by canvas walls into bedroom and bathing areas. Each tent is surrounded by its own 360-degree wraparound verandah deck, creating a private sanctuary to enjoy constant game sightings and ever-present bush sounds. Tents feature comfortable queen or twin beds, wood floors, colonial-style leather chairs, African textile accents, comfortable en-suite facilities with clean flushing toilets, bush bucket showers with hot and cold water (heated on fire), solar energy, mosquito nets, tables, chairs, free toiletries, and complimentary bottled water. Unlike most mobile migration safaris, the camp offers hot water and electricity 24/7.

Facilitites

The communal areas are set out on multiple levels and boast spectacular savanna views over the northern Serengeti valley floor, Grumeti River plains, and surrounding areas with wildlife drinking at the hippo pool. The main tent features a dining area with tables, and the camp has cracking fireplaces where guests relax, share safari stories, and experience warmth during cold nights while enjoying sundowners. The atmosphere is cheerful, relaxed, and chilled, with stunning views over bushy plains blending seamlessly into the rocky outcrop environment.

About

The camp is well-suited for travelers keen on witnessing the Great Migration, with herds passing through the vicinity from August through November. The northern Serengeti location is miles from the main concentration of game lodges, giving it a sense of privacy rarely achieved in the more visited western and southern park corridors. The camp is also within driving distance of the other great wildebeest crossing point at the Mara River (on the border between Serengeti and Kenya's Maasai Mara). Guests can sit back with sundowners listening to hippos wallowing into twilight hours.

The camp is owned and operated by Elewana Collection, a company with 16 boutique lodges, camps, and hotels in iconic locations across Kenya and Tanzania. It's a sister camp to Serengeti Pioneer (located in the park's south region). The unique combination of both camps guarantees exemplary and unfettered access to the Serengeti's annual migration and exceptional game viewing all year round. Accommodation is booked on a full-board basis or as part of a game package, including all meals, selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, and laundry service.

The camp is convenient and business-friendly, accessible via 5-6 hour drive from Arusha to Serengeti National Park or 1-2 hour flight from Arusha to Seronera Airstrip followed by a few-minute transfer to camp. The camp offers stunning views over the Serengeti plains and is packed with game-viewing potential in this subtle, charming, classic tented camp with a touch of unpretentious luxury.
