Amarura Campsite

Amarura Camp (also called Amarula Campsite) is a basic, rustic campsite located inside the UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Kondoa Region of Tanzania, positioned near the Kolo River and overlooking the Masai Steppe.

Accomodation

The campsite can accommodate up to 20 campers at any time, offering rustic accommodation with basic services. Guests can pitch their own tent in the spacious campground, or sleep in one of three safari tents (some with proper beds and mattresses). The facility includes two basic bucket showers, compost/dry toilets, communal kitchen, eating/gathering area, and shower house. The rustic services include solar showers, solar electricity, and dry toilets. There are plenty of picnic tables, chairs, and hammocks in the main pleasant area.

Views & Surroundings

The camp offers beautiful, lush surroundings with wonderful covered picnic areas and beautiful views that are super relaxing. Positioned overlooking the Masai Steppe near the Kolo River, the location provides spectacular birding opportunities. The area is characterized by lush surroundings to explore with no wild animals around here, making it safe for hiking from camp. The beautiful landscape and views create a peaceful, relaxing environment perfect for nature enthusiasts.

Activities

The camp serves as a base for visiting UNESCO Heritage Rock Art Sites in the Kondoa Region, with the office/museum of the World Heritage Site in Kolo only 10 minutes drive away. Guests can hike from camp (safe with no wild animals), enjoy spectacular birding, and explore the beautiful surroundings. The camp is an excellent option for rock art site visits or as a super getaway to central Tanzania, offering easy access to major attractions in the region.
