Maweninga Camp

Maweninga Camp is an exclusive tented safari camp located inside Tarangire National Park in northern Tanzania, uniquely built on the top of a huge granite kopje/rock that rises out of the picturesque landscape. The camp is situated in the western part of Tarangire National Park in a remote, isolated area at an elevated position on the top of the imposing granite mountain, offering exclusive location within the park with panoramic views over the surrounding wilderness. 

Rooms

The camp offers 16 canvas tents (some sources mention 12 tents) built on individual raised wooden platforms/decks atop the granite rock. Each tent is comfortable and stylish with safari canvas construction, featuring an open terrace/private veranda, bedroom, dressing room alcove, and en-suite bathroom with toilet (flushing/toilets), sink, and shower with solar-heated hot water available 24 hours. Tents include large beds, coat stand, lamps, and are built in traditional African style with natural materials (grass-thatched roofs/makuti roof and local woods) in a cozy environment combined with modern comfort, providing authentic bush feeling.

Facilities & Dining

Public areas consist of a lovely restaurant and bar with wooden floors and makuti roof adjacent to the huge flat rock terrace/natural rock terrace (serving as outdoor dining area). The central area with restaurant and bar is located on a natural rock terrace under makuti roof, offering scenic dining with views. The camp is affordable and convenient with mid-range (3-star) accommodation at mid-level price, providing good value for money. The camp is run by the local Maasai and has a pleasantly laid-back atmosphere with authentic small lodge experience.
